The Ptarmigan Bar is the perfect place to linger in after dinner with a fine speyside, island or lowland malt beside the roaring log fire.
With a selection of almost 70 whiskies, many of which are rare finds indeed, you could easily spend the weekend sampling the best malts Scotland has to offer.
Just like wines, Single Malts usually show their region in their labelling. To know where a whisky was produced is to have a general idea of its likely character. The differences come from the terroir (soil conditions) and tradition. There are no regional regulations for the production of malts. In their aroma and palate, some whiskies shout of their region. Islay malts in particular tend to be dark, heavy and leafy with a fantastic peaty finish. Lowland malts are traditionally light in both flavour and body, but surprisingly complex and herbal.
As with wines, personal tastes are everything. Try as many as you can until you find your own favourite. Drink it neat, with water, ice or a splash of orange juice. It is there for you to enjoy and enjoy it you will.
